…comes back around. When it comes to fashion, that’s certainly the case!  Take one look at this high-waisted denim skirt and it’s like a blast from the 1990’s past all over again. But this mom’s jeans denim skirt is not from the 90s; it’s a vintage inspired look that’s pretty recent from ASOS.

I love that fashion is like an ever revolving door, trends we thought were dead and buried deep in the back of our closets always somehow make a way back into our lives… Although there are a few styles that I hope will never come back. Cough, hammer pants and backward jeans, cough.

Simple, effortless, flirty…and even though the little slip dress was my summer staple, I’m taking this trend with me into fall. The beauty of a slip dress is her versatility. She’s a simple yet sexy little number that subtly says, “I’m feminine” without being being over the top. Reminiscent of a slinky piece of lingerie, the slip dress may be too “out there” for some, but with the right styling and accessories, you can take the bedroom out of the slip dress and make it completely wearable for day or night. Not to mention there are about 80 ways ways to style this look with items that are already in your closet. One of my favorite look is layering the slip dress with an over-sized cardigan, sometimes a scarf if it’s chilly, usually with a hat and strappy heels. :)

British philosopher Francis Bacon said, “Fashion is the only attempt to realize art in living forms and social intercourse”. This living form of art holds power – power to control a part of one’s image. Anyone can play a role, embody a story, or represent an era based on what he or she chooses to wear.

I remember when I first saw this dress on the sales rack at Bloomingdales a few years ago… it was 4 times too large for me and I almost passed it up. I tried it on, put it back, then tried it on again… wondering if I can altered it without too much complications (I’m lazy), and finally decided to give in when the sale price was too good to pass up. Well, I’m so glad I didn’t because after altering it, the fit was perfect and here a few years later, it’s still a hit whenever I put it on. When I wear this dress, I feel elegant, confident, and as if I was transformed back to a certain decade. Sometimes I joke and say it’s vintage and that it belongs to my mom. :)
