I’m obsessed with taking photos during the golden hour. As many of you may already know this takes place one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset. Since I love to sleep in, I usually prefer the latter. Why I love it? The lighting during the golden hours can completely transform a photo. When the sun is almost horizontal it has the power to outline subjects with a line of soft golden light and illuminates the atmosphere that adds ambiance, interest and drama. My favorite is when the sun is directly behind me. I love how it creates a warm glow highlighting my boring hair!

I remember when I first started taking photos for my blog last December, I don’t know much about lighting. I would take photos right smack in the middle of the day when the sun is the brightest and directly faced the sun which created harsh lights on my face. In addition to lighting, good angles and focus also play a strong role. Although I’m not the person behind the camera, I’m always curious about photography and love to learn more about what can make a ordinary photo extraordinary.

If you have any tips on photography or how you like your photos taken, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Here are a few of my favorite photos while playing with lighting:

Print Mixology

I have been wearing a lot of solids and muted colors lately, and I’m kinda missing my bold prints and bright colors. For now, I’ll play with simple patterns: leopard and stripes with a dab of chevron mixed in.

I remember seeing my closet a few years ago filled of stripes, dots, floral and animal prints but never thought to mixed them together. Nowadays mixing patterns and prints has no boundaries. There are all sorts of tips out there on how to mix prints…but I think the key in making prints flow together is the wearer’s attitude and confidence. I’ve seen  3-4-5-even 6 different prints, wildly worn together that made my head spun…somehow the person wearing it made it work. I think all 6 would make me look like I just escaped the madhouse, but I’d love to experiment more with exotic and ikat prints. Do you think attitude is everything when it comes to fashion?

Self imprisonment for 3 days can make you do a lot of impulsive things…Over indulged on candy, lots of it, and go on a sugar high, buy loads of food from Costco because we like to eat in large quantities, and wear my top backwards. I guess the latter is my favorite because it’s obvious the details were meant to be in the front.

I have been busy trying to finalize all the new pieces for KTRcollection for the Kearny Street Workshop (KSW) fashion show on September 8th that I have kind of neglected my home. The house has been a total disaster and the fridge looked like it belong to a single college man. My rule is no matter how obsessed I am with a project, taking care of home should always be a first priority. So it was about that time for a quick break to recharge, restock and refresh, plus a good 8 hour of sleep was so needed! I can’t wait to share what I made with you soon! :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and your Monday is off to a great one! xo

I’ve been meaning to wear these perfectly crochet neon shorts all summer and finally decided to take it out to play before the weather gets cold. Speaking of cold, I feel the air getting a little more crisp and the wind a bit more chilly in the evenings. I don’t know about you but I’ll be in some deep pooh when the weather gets cold. Everything I have seems to be shorts, skirts and more shorts. I guess it’s time to figure out what items I need to invest in for fall… Can’t summer just last forever?

Well at least it’s Friday! Don’t work too hard! :) xo

I Dream In Colors

When I saw this skirt at H&M, I tried to resist but the vibrancy of the fuchsia color and interesting fanned-out pleats made of a random sporty material kept calling me back. Yup, I have no self control. I love the way the pleats hold its shape and the length is so ladylike. Plus it’s the perfect mate to my teal blouse (last worn here)…So here it is, hung in my room next to the many colors that are dominating my closet these days.

Opposites may not always attract, but when it comes to color-blocking, colors on the opposite side of the spectrum can create a beautiful unity. Mixing colors is nothing new but it’s one of my favorite trend that I’ll never get tired off and will rock until I am gray and wrinkled.

What about you, are you tired of this trend yet?
