Happy Thursday lovebugs. It’s been so gloomy in Northern Cali lately that all I have been wearing for the last few days are black, black and more black. Yesterday, I managed to throw on my favorite-at-the-moment faux fur leopard vest which always add a little character to whatever I’m wearing. Despite having no sleeves, it keeps me pretty cozy! Hope you’re staying warm and dry!

P.S. I love these leather denim hybrid pants that I try to remix it as much as I could (here and here). Which look is your favorite?

Petite Fashion Challenge #21: The Fashionator

From the announcement: My love affair with fascinators started a few years back when I was planning for my wedding. There was something about these pretty feathery, floral, netted headpieces that made me feel so utterly feminine and elegant. When the wedding was over, I found myself even more drawn to these pretty hair accessories and wish I could wear them more often…Not only can they disguise a bad hair day, they also make a bold statement for any outfit. And fashion is all about making a statement!

This month’s challenge is to create an outfit for an occasion (of your choice: attending a wedding, in a wedding, a holiday party, Kentucky Derby, etc.) and utilize a headpiece as the focal point to make a “fashionator” statement. This headpiece can be a fascinator, a fancy headband, a delicate flower or a big hat. Feel free to get as creative as you like!

On my headpiece:
thick tulle from Joann’s | peacock feathers and ranunculus flowers from Michael’s | green jewel removed from old headband.

What I love about a personal style blog is having a place where I can be creative and bring almost whatever imagination I have to life (with the help of my photographer who’s always a good sport when he’s fed) .

For this challenge, I wanted to do something fun & flirty and my flowy purple skirt was perfect. Color-blocking with teal really brought out the purple and contrasted nicely with the coral ranunculus flowers. My girl Becca wore shades of blue-violet and magenta and I whipped together a black tulle birdcage veil headpiece to complete her ladylike modern look. Becca was clever to add hers to a headband which held in place perfectly while we were running around taking these photos. I had about a thousand hairpins stuck to my head.  :/

On Becca’s headpiece: Black flower with attached veil from F21 | thin mesh tulle and colored stones from Joann’s

Loving Him is Red

Red is such a bold and iconic color and with certainty, it is my favorite color to wear. Putting on a red dress makes me feel instantly confident, energetic and happy.

Although maxi skirts were a summer favorite, I’m definitely still in love with the floor-grazing look this fall. The easiest way to transition a maxi from summer to fall is by choosing patterns rooted in darker hues and adding layers such as a fitted jacket, scarf or sweater. Since our October weather is still sort of warm, I wore a crop top for day and added a light denim jacket for evening. I’m loving this easy breezy, fun, casual-glam look and I’m looking forward to more maxi fall outfits.

What’s your fall maxi style and do you have any suggestions on footwear with maxis?

Sometimes I find myself buying things and never end up wearing it. This poor little skirt for example has been sitting in the bottom of my shopping bag for half a year and I almost felt guilty when I saw her laying there looking a little pissed off (yes clothes has feelings too). The funny thing is I stalked it for months on ASOS for it to come back in stock.

In my most convincing Carrie Bradshaw voice, sometimes I can’t help but wonder, do we shop just to shop? Do we really wear everything we buy and how much money do we actually waste on clothes and accessories that we don’t wear?

Anyway, happy Wednesday loves! I’m heading off to New York today when all the NYFW craze is dying down even though NY is still the city that never sleeps, NYFW or not. I’ll be there to celebrate my friend’s last days as a single woman, attend Couture Fashion Week, visit old friends, meet new ones and you guess it, shop! :)

Flower Bud

There’s something about green and pink that reminds me of a flower bud. So sweet, delicate and refreshing. I love flowers, they are a reminder for us to slow down sometimes and appreciate the beauty all around us…

I heart this Kelly green skirt. It’s one of those colors I love to wear because it can easily transition from Spring to Fall, not to mention the perfect green shade is great for any skin tone. I love the silky soft satin and the over-sized bow details adds a lovely allure of sweet ladylike elegance.

Love this F21 pearl necklace but as you know the quality are not always everlasting and bummer that a few pearls came apart. I have been looking into a really nice quality (yet affordable freshwater pearl set and really love the ones from My Jewelry Box. If you have some recommendations, please do share!

Back when I was in high school some 13 years ago, I used to like to coordinate, A LOT. Yes, I was that girl sitting in front of you in the classroom with the hot pink belt matching the hot pink shoes and the hot pink bag (hey, don’t you judge me :). It was cute then but now I cringed at the thought of a matchy-matchy outfit.

I’ve strayed away from matching bright hues so color blocking was a just the perfect happening that I’m hoping will last forever and ever. Or maybe some 13 years from now, I’ll be matching shoes-belt-bag again….Ha!

Happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend and thanks for stopping by! xo
