The Sweetest Thing

I’m a huge fan of pretty little headpieces and this floral halo wreath is the perfect combination of whimsical and romance that adds a touch of sweetness to any outfit. Plus, I’m dying to be a flower girl at my friend’s wedding, if her daughter decide to bail, I’m volunteering to take her place (hint, hint) :)

I was in the mood to release my inner boho spirit so my floral halo headpiece was the perfect accessory to accompanied this sweet chiffon wide leg pleated pants that looked like it could be a maxi skirt. I was fooled by it too until I saw my bestie wore it in green. I think these pants are so lovely and perfect fit for lounging around in warm weather. Although it’s super long but the alterations was quite simple and the sheer material will require you to wear shorts underneath. It also comes in black, green and burgundy and I may get the black ones too.

What do you think of these pants?

Life’s A Beach

I saw the above quote on instagram and in a Carrie Bradshaw kind of moment, “I couldn’t help but wonder,” why are we always expected to be so normal?

Consciously or unconsciously, there is this perfect fictionalized version of ourselves that we try to live up to…The truth of the matter is no one is perfect (even my idol J.Lo has flaws!), but what makes a person perfectly beautiful is the attitude they possess (and I know I definitely could work on mine! :). I think we are all different and our imperfections are actually what makes us unique and thus beautiful…sniff, a day at the beach always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, lol.

(and tumbling down I go)

Hanging out at the beach always bring out the kid in me. It’s a place of healing and happiness. I love when the sun embraces me in its warmth and the sound of the ocean feels like therapy to my heart. It kind of feels like I’m on an island far, far away from the hectic world with not a worry in sight. That’s when I get to be totally dorky, weird and at my most abnormal self…and it feels freakin’ great! Wouldn’t it be nice if life is really a beach and we never have to pretend we are normal? :)

Hope you’re having a wonderful day! xo

Caribbean Vacation Diaries: Part 3

(St. Maarten, Great Bay Beach)

We spent the last two days of our Caribbean vacation on the beach laid under unbrellas  in hopes of recovering from the sunburns (shame on me for always underestimating the sun!), ate lots of Caribbean food and sipped on pina coladas.

Back to September: Bora Bora

After seeing the movie Couple’s Retreat a couple of years ago, I fell in love with the beautiful lagoons of Bora Bora. The pristine turquoise water and the soft white sand of the movie’s setting was just breath taking. Wishful thinking, I told NR “one day”…I would love to go there. The next thing I knew (well a year later) my wish came true :)

Three flights and 10.5 hours later (SFO>LAX>Pape’ete>Bora), we made it to this little paradise on Earth….looking at these pictures transports me right back to September.

Never seen so many shades of blue

Looking for Kim K.’s diamond earrings lol

There’s something about the 1940s and 50s that oozes gorgeous femininity and vintage glamour.  Being obsessed with high-waisted anything, of course the high-waisted tapered trousers are one of my fave. I adore them not only for the look but also for the reason why women started wearing them. Do you know the story?

During the 40’s men wore high-waisted pants. While they were at the battlefronts, women adopted the style to take over their mens’ workplace. Realizing the comfort, the high-waisted pants were stuck and adopted into many shapes and forms.

In the 80s’s the high-waist pants became less form fitting and more voluminous with pleating around the hips. This continued to be popular well into the 90s and the 21st century, but with bolder and brighter hues. I’m so glad that this look has such a special place in fashion culture because I cannot get enough of these feminist pants!

 :: Style Tips ::

I am no expert and for all I know I might be wearing this all bad, but for me when it comes to wearing high-waisted trousers, I have two essential rules: (i) A fitted or cropped top, and (ii) high heels.

Fitted Top: A cropped or form fitting top balances out the extra material in the pants. If you opt for the latter, make sure the shirt is tucked in (don’t cover up the best element of the pants) and does not add too much bulk under the pants.

If it’s chilly out go for a fitted, structured, and cropped jacket. Avoid outerwear that sits passed your hips as it can make you look dowdy and bigger than you really are.

High Heels: High-waisted trousers look their best with high heels (a must if you are very short) or bold flats (only if you’ve got the height).
